For the last few days we’ve been ravaged by big storms ripping down trees and blowing up transformers (the boring kind). The older part of town, where at we live, is the most exciting part in that regard because everything is old and comes apart easily. On a jog yesterday I had to jump over fallen trunks and limbs and circumnavigate lake-sized puddles. Luckily the highway always stays on during outtages and it’s packed with fast food restaurants and wal-marts that’ll keep you plenty occupied any time of the day or night. I myself usually sit around and watch movies until my laptop’s battery dies. Then I just sit around. That’s how I saw The Happening. My goodness was that film ever terrible. I’ll miss the storms when I leave.
The good news is I’ll be headed to Washington this Saturday. BOOYAH! Gots a Southwest ticket in my sweaty hand, and my replacement Cybook arrived today! Great timing.
Unrelatedly, I stumbled across a great band called Foxy Shazam. If you’ve never heard of them, imagine The Blood Brothers, Showbread and Ben Folds having a massive orgy on stage. And if you’re not familiar with all of those groups, just imagine a brightly-lit and athletic orgy. Sexy right? Exactly my point. Check ‘em out here.

For those of you who haven’t yet heard, I’m back in Indiana - entirely against my will, but not entirely disappointed about it. You see, I encountered a little “trouble” with immigration in the UK. Most of which consisted of a stupid old man named John Anderson (I feel like I can mention his name both because I don’t give a rat’s ass about his privacy, and because it’s so generic anyway) who resembled the grandpa from Everybody Loves Raymond, only more disheveled.

I was out extra special late Friday and Saturday night this past weekend. Both times I was a total wet blanket by the end of the night because I stopped drinking about a week ago, and who the hell stays out till 6am anyway? I don’t care how drunk you are. That’s olympic-scale recreating.

Holy jangles, I am a bad person for taking so long to post another entry. I need to get my ass in gear more often. According to this blog-o-page, it’s been 17 days since my last post. UH-OOOOOOOH.
There was a small get-together at Dave’s place shortly after my last post. I forget when. One of Dave’s coworkers, John, was there with his Japanese girlfriend, along with another Japanese dude, Aki, and then three girls who arrived in stages. It turned out to be totally boring because barely anyone would loosen up and have fun. In other words, no one was drinking. Which sucks, because I dropped like $100 on spirits and buffalo wings for the occasion. Crap!

Oicha. Long overdue. My baddles. I meant for this entry to have happened a few days ago when it could have been all romantic and junk. But hey, I’m a born procrastinator. It’s what I do. AND I’M GOOD AT IT DAMN IT.
I’m in Japan(ts) now. Been that way for probably three days. I forget when I arrived. Getting here was made excruciatingly difficult for my lack of discipline. I had a PARTY time my last night in Cairns/Australia. Hit some booze and such with my mouth. I swear it was an accident. The ordeal left me going to sleep at about tooth:hurty AM because we undertook an arduous sojourn to visit a friend who lived out in a range somewhere. We had a great time, but the distance meant that I probably spent about $80 total on cab fare. I’m not worried about that because it was worth it. Smoke. Spirits. All you can do is imagine.

Millions of years ago man traveled from place to place via four large, rubber wheels which sprouted from either side of his ankles at around the age of 10. Since then we have, of course, evolved the slower and more boring method of transit we now know as “feet”. YAAAWWWWNNN. It is because of this natural evolution that we, to this day, celebrate our great ancestral voyage through motion by riding heese (the new and better plural for ‘horse’) and ATVs to experience how both of them succeed, and both of them fail at being the ideal mode of transport.

We’re in Cow Bay again like stink on a finger. This is day four and the final one of our trip. Presently, George and David (George’s neighbor up here… did I mention that yet?) are framing some walls of one of the sheds. I was looking forward to heading home, until they decided to tuck that in before we left.
We erected a new trellis and filled it halfway, and another pre-existing one the rest of the way, with poles. Planting FINALLY began yesterday afternoon. We collected clippings and seedlings and placed them at the bottom of the poles. After a couple hours of busting asses in half, the sky started shitting down rain all of a sudden, putting a halt on our work right as I was shoveling another load of mulch into the wheel barrow. I became a sad, wet panda. Now I just want to get back to Cairns to check my email and post this monstrosity.

Back in Cairns for about a week now. Boy shucks did I do some kind of number on my foot. The worst part about it is, I didn’t even get the pleasure of doing something stupid to get this way! I have no idea what happened, but my foot is puffy and creepy looking. I finally gave in to the pleas from those near me and visited a doctor yesterday. He prescribed some antibiotics. I made sure to get decent painkillers as well because the OTC crizap they’ve got in this country ain’t nothin’ compared to the horse tranquilizers handed out like candy in the US. I also got some x-rays taken earlier this afternoon to make sure I haven’t screwed up any of my bones. I may have to go back to the doctor if something turns up. If this crap keeps up, I’ll be looking into getting a temporary medicare card to handle some of the costs. So far, treatment hasn’t been too expensive anyway.

Day 30
We’ve been in the Torres Straits for nearly a week by now. Confusion has once again rapt my brain. Word had it a few days ago that we were probably going to be staying in the Straits for the rest of the trip, meaning that my week of boat duty would transform into an early ticket back to Cairns, as I still don’t qualify to work in this area. Now I hear talk of heading back down the coast. Whether or not it’s for good or not, I don’t know. I may or may not be leaving the boat early.
